Scott Forstall, Apple’s VP for iOS, has created a Twitter account. So what?!
Apple, as a matter of policy, discourages its employees from blogging or engaging in other forms of public communication due to its secretive approach to new products. While I don’t expect the company to move away from that secretive posture that has become one of its most distinctive characteristics, but it might signal that the company will open another line of communication with the community, other than press-releases.
Any additional information coming out of Cupertino will be welcome, but right now I’m not too confident that we’re going to really see Scott Forstall engaging users directly through Twitter any time soon. This might actually just be a move to create a profile and thus avoid that others take the spot with a fake account. Of course, fake accounts can be taken down with the appropriate request to Twitter, but it just seems simpler to create a real account to blog it. If this is the case, the over 18.000 people that are already following Scott on Twitter are in for a long wait.
