iOS 4.2 is right around the corner

Apple released iOS 4.2 Golden Master to developers today.  This is typically  the final build of a new version of the operating system and should reflect what Apple will make generally available to iOS device owners.

Apple had announced iOS 4.2 availability for this November and this release indicates that they are going to make it without trouble.

This release of iOS will be the first 4.x version to be compatible with the iPad. This will bring multitasking capabilities to the iPad as well as add printing capability to latest generation iOS devices.  Another feature which will be added to devices of the latest generation of all iOS devices is Air Play which lets users stream video directly from their iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches directly to an Apple TV.

This will be a very important update for iPad users as it will allow iPad users to make full use of new applications that have been created since the iPhone 4 was launched. These applications run in a small part, in the background allowing you to listen to Internet radio, remain online in an instant messaging application or receive a Skype call while using another application.

I have iOS 4.2 on my iPad and it is pretty slick. It takes a bit of getting used to as I have a 1st Gen iPod Touch so haven’t upgraded to iOS 4.x yet on it. It does have the print capability which is a huge bonus and multitasking is great on it.
