Today, rumors have been flying left and right about Verizon starting to carry the iPhone as of January 2011. This would coincide with the company starting to operate a new technology network supporting much faster data speeds.
This portion of the rumor is what actually lends it some credence as it seems rather unlikely that Apple would put the effort into developing a version of the iPhone supporting Verizon’s current technology which has gone into disuse elsewhere in the world and which the company will start to migrate from in the not so distant future.
If this rumor should prove to be true,...

A piece on Advertising Age that came to my attention through a post by Daniel Eran Dilger on AppleInsider suggests that iOS 4 will not come to the iPad before November. This was extrapolated from the fact that Apple seems to be telling advertisers with its new iAd mobile advertising network that the service will not be available on the iPad before November.
iAd support is one of the features of the new iOS 4 that are not already available in the iPad’s iPhone OS 3.2. Several of the features that were introduced on the iPhone with iOS 4 were already available on the iPad’s version of...

Amazon has introduced a new version of its Kindle application for both the iPad and the iPhone (and iPod) that supports embedded audio and video clips. This move gives Amazon an interesting advantage with publishers wishing to bring to market multimedia enriched books without having to develop their own iOS applications.
It is probably just a question of time before Apple matches this move by adding equivalent features to its own ebook reading application: iBooks. As Amazon and Apple both use different formats for the eBooks they sell through their stores, this means that we will have competing book...

In a press release issued today Apple announced that it had sold over 1.7 million iPhones in just the first 3 days of sales. Those are the sales registered up until this past Saturday and all indications are that where supplies still last there is still high demand for the phone.
With Apple selling millions of iPhones each quarter there could be little doubt that there would be strong demand for the new phone, so Apple ramped up production and had a huge quantity of devices available to buyers when it was officially released. Even so, there are reports of locations where the phone is no longer...

In rummaging through my daily collection of iPad related information I ran into a story about an inventor that having lost his job just as the iPad was coming out, rolled up his sleeves and designed a case for it. As it turns out the Zeego case seems pretty interesting as it can also function as a stand in a fashion that is similar to that of the case made by Apple, but uses Velcro to adjust the angle of the display.
The Zeego case can also be used as a car mount so that passengers in the back seat of the the car can interact with the iPad or just sit down and watch a movie. As many have found out...

It seems that many people are disappointed with their brand new iPhones. Over at The Next Web, they’ve collected some comments from disgruntled users who ran into several problems in their first day of usage. Complaints about the iPhone 4 center around two main issues: spots on the display and bad reception.
Both of these issues already have some tentative explanations, one of which is good for users while the other is truly disappointing. There has been a suggestion that the spots on the display are related to a substance used in the bonding process for different layers in the glass and that...

This morning the iPhone 4 has started selling, with a large number of people standing in line for the chance to purchase one. Lines much longer than those seen for the start of sales of the iPhone 3Gs and for the iPad were reported in Apple’s 5th Av. store in New York as well as other locations. Long queues with people numbering in the hundreds have been reported in other countries which are also part of the first wave of the iPhone 4′s roll out.
TUAW reader David Platt sent them information from the queue in front of an Apple Store in Charlotte, North Carolina, stating that there...

Apple has issued a press release informing that it has sold 3 million iPads in 80 days. During these 80 days 11,000 applications specially developed for the iPad have been made available in the US App Store.
In the same press release Apple confirms that next month the iPad will start selling in nine additional countries. In the same sentence they state that they are working hard to get the device into the hands of customers in a non-explicit reference to the fact that the device is selling so fast that it continues to be hard to find the model you want if you just walk into a...

Apple has made available on the App Store version 1.1 of the iBooks application, adding support for PDF documents on the iPad and making the application compatible with the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Adding support for PDF documents to iBooks is a great move by Apple as it greatly increases the ease with which most users will be able to access such documents which are widely used in freely distributed documentation and papers.
The fact that iBooks seems to support protected PDF files will increase it’s usability value even more and make it even more easy for people to provide content for...

Apple has made available the iOS 4 update for users of compatible devices. This operating system upgrade is available for free for all devices from the second generation on up. This means that it just the original iPhone and iPod Touch are not capable of running the new operating system.
From what Steve Jobs mentioned in his presentation of iOS 4 and later of iPhone 4 it seems the upgrade restrictions are really a matter of the older hardware being incapable of coping with the demands of running multiple user tasks or handling the graphics requirements involved with the new software. Ars...

This little piece of news is getting old. It was just a couple of days ago that this same fact was figured in iPad Watcher, but it seems that the news that Apple is selling iPhones in huge quantities has really helped propel its stock price.
During the day, this Friday, Apple shares climbed to $275, before closing at $274.07.
The iPhone is selling like, well… like nothing we’ve seen before. Rumors now claim that there is going to be a shortage of displays for the new phone, given the fact that a lot more people are interested in buying the still un-released phone than Apple seems to...

It has been confirmed that the new model iPhone which is set to be released this month will have 512MB or RAM, instead of the 256MB that the iPhone 3Gs and the iPad have now. This information was revealed at a developer session at Apple’s WWDC conference and has now ben confirmed as Apple made available online to its registered developers recordings of the conference’s sessions.
This increased RAM should allow the iPhone 4 to handle multiple tasks better than the current 3Gs model and the iPad, both of which will be receiving operating system upgrades that will allow them to support...

Apple is certainly getting a lot of attention these days and the incredible amount of interest in its new products has propelled its stock to new heights. Today shares reached an all-time-high of $272.90, for a brief period.
Apple stock has trended upwards for the past couple of years with the release of several successful products the latest of which seems to be the iPhone 4 which comes just a few months after the launch of the iPad which was also extremely well received. With the iPad still in short supply in stores around the world and in the US, it seems that Apple is going to have a hard time...

It would seem that the iPhone 4 is going to get as warm a reception, and perhaps even more so, as the iPad had. This Tuesday was the first day of pre-orders for the phone and it seems that iPhone 4 users were out in force. At first it was AT&T that changed its target delivery day, but by the end of the day Apple’s online store seemed to have gone through its inventory of iPhones for delivery on the 24th, the first day of sales.
Currently the Apple online store is showing a shipping date of July 2nd. It should be fun to see Apple’s sales numbers once they start to make them...
